Black Rock Burning Man Festival is a performance art with public participation. It covers too much cultural history and the attitudes of modern and contemporary people towards life and art. It set off a huge upsurge like a prairie fire. It is a festival in the modern sense. The Burning Man Festival is an annual event held in the Blackstone Desert of Nevada, the United States. The nine-day event begins on the previous Sunday and ends on the first Monday of September. The name of Fire Man Day begins with the ceremony of burning a huge humanoid wooden portrait on Saturday night. This activity was described by many participants as a community, radical self-expression, and an experiment of complete self-reliance.
History of Burning Man
The Burning Man event originated in 1986 when Larry Harvey, Jerry James and a few friends started a summer solstice campfire ceremony at Baker Beach in San Francisco. They burned a 2.7-meter wooden figure and a smaller wooden dog. It continued for several years. In 1990, the event was interrupted by the police on the grounds of not having a license, so they moved to the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. The event is hosted by Black Rock City LLC, and the number of participants has increased rapidly every year. In 2008, a total of 49,599 people participated; in 2013, the number of participants reached about 68,000.
Burning Man Features
Burning Man doesn't have a single focus, as the participants, known as the 'Burners,' each have a variety of different goals. The features of the event depend on the participants. The Burning Man campaign encompasses 10 principles, radical inclusion, giving, decommodification, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression, community work, civic responsibility, leaving no trace, engagement, and immediacy. Since 1995, Larry Harvey has given each year's event a different theme. In 2006 the theme was Hope and Fear, in 2007 it was Green Man and in 2010 it was Met. It partly dictated the design of the Burning Giant, and the theme also had a big influence on attendees' use of artwork, costumes, camps, and vehicles.
Burning Man mainly calls for exotic art and imaginative art, but various art forms appear during the event. Burning Man encourages expression through artistic creation and interactive art. Many theme camps registered with Blackstone are activity and living centers established by a large sub-community of participants, using a large number of design and artistic elements to attract a larger community and meet Blackstone's interactive requirements. Music, performances, and mobile street theater are common art forms in camps and urban built-up areas. Immediately adjacent to the city, the dry lakebed of La Hon Don Lake is home to hundreds of works of art, ranging from small to very large installations, often sculptures with kinetic, electronic and fire elements.
black rock city
Black Rock City is a temporary city created by the participants of the Burning Man Festival, and almost all participants in the event are voluntary. Much of the layout, and general city infrastructure, was built by the volunteers living in the weeks before and after the event. The rest of the city including themed camps, villages, art installations and personal camps are created by attendees. Except for the central camp in the city, which was built by the Black Rock City Company, various large-scale themed camps in the city are often built by a group of people with a common identity or trait, and the village is formed by a combination of smaller camps. That atmosphere is their vision of Black Rock City. As Burning Man's attendance grows each year, attracting more diverse groups, the subcultures that create themed camps have similar qualities found in other cities, as well. The Burning Man event relies on the spontaneous participation of the masses, as well as the selfless dedication of time and energy of a large number of volunteers.
